The 43-year-old man was driving a gray Toyota Tacoma north along the street when he hit 145 Circuit avenue, police said in a statement Sunday. He drove off from that crash and proceeded to hit a car and Third World Trading Co., a clothing and gift store at 52 Circuit avenue, according to police.

The man, who police did not identify ahead of his arraignment scheduled for Monday morning in Edgartown District Court, has also been charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and improper operation of a motor vehicle.

Oak Bluffs police chief Jonathan Searle told the Gazette soon after the incident that there were no reported injuries.

“A male operator was observed sitting in the driver’s seat and the engine was still running. The operator was the only occupant in the vehicle,” the police department’s statement reads.

Third World Trading Co. was heavily damaged in the crash. Much of the shop’s facade was destroyed when the truck ran into it, and the building’s interior was almost fully exposed Saturday evening. The roof also appeared to have incurred damage.

Video footage from a nearby webcam shows the truck headed in the wrong direction up the one-way street before running into the store.
