Toledo, OH – Sections of several major highways in northwest Ohio were temporarily shut down Friday after crashes and wind-blown debris created dangerous travel conditions across Toledo, OH.
According to reports, strong winds sweeping across the area caused multiple traffic incidents, including overturned semitrailers and debris scattered across roadways, disrupting travel on Interstate 280 and portions of U.S. Routes 20 and 24.
Authorities said I-280 southbound was closed between Interstate 75 and Starr Avenue after a semi overturned on the Veterans Glass City Skyway bridge. The truck was later cleared from the bridge, allowing traffic to resume later in the afternoon.

Additional issues were reported along the same interstate. Officials closed the southbound lanes of I-280 at State Route 795 as crews responded to crash-related hazards in the area.
Other major roadways were also affected. U.S. 24 was shut down between Defiance and Napoleon near County Road 17D due to debris blowing from an overpass construction site. Meanwhile, U.S. 20 eastbound in Woodville Township was closed after high winds overturned another semi truck.

Traffic disruptions extended beyond those highways as well. Officials reported the I-75 northbound ramp connecting to U.S. 23 and Interstate 475 was closed because of a separate crash, and traffic was blocked at the U.S. 6/U.S. 20 westbound and State Route 19 northbound interchange.
The crashes and closures occurred as powerful wind gusts moved through northwest Ohio, prompting warnings about hazardous travel conditions and blowing debris on roadways. Drivers were urged to check traffic conditions and use caution while traveling as crews worked to clear the incidents and reopen affected routes.
Transportation officials advised motorists to monitor traffic updates and consider alternate routes until conditions improved and roadways were fully reopened.
