What Happened

Idaho State Police reported a September 21, 2026, collision at about 3:41 p.m. at US 93 and E 3100 N, north of Hollister in Twin Falls County.

The agency said a northbound Honda Odyssey began turning west while a Peterbilt traveling behind it attempted to pass. The vehicles collided.

The minivan's driver and three adult passengers were transported to a hospital by ambulance. The two Peterbilt occupants were not transported.

The intersection was blocked for approximately three hours, according to the report.

Questions for the Investigation

A turn-and-pass collision depends on timing. Reconstruction may compare when the minivan began moving left with when the truck entered a passing position. Available video, turn-signal observations, pavement markings, and impact locations could help distinguish those movements. The published account does not resolve every detail about right-of-way or visibility, and hospitalization alone does not establish the severity or duration of each person's injuries.

What Investigators May Examine

Commercial vehicle crashes can involve evidence held by the driver, motor carrier, vehicle owner, maintenance providers, public agencies, and other parties. Investigators may compare physical evidence from the scene with records generated before and during the trip.

  • Electronic control module, telematics, and available camera data
  • Driver hours-of-service, dispatch, and qualification records
  • Vehicle inspection, tire, brake, and maintenance histories
  • Roadway measurements, traffic-camera footage, and witness statements
  • Cargo, loading, securement, and carrier safety records when relevant

Why Early Evidence Preservation Matters

Electronic truck data, dispatch messages, surveillance video, and other records may be overwritten or discarded in the ordinary course of business. Roadway debris can also be removed within hours. Prompt preservation requests can help protect information before it disappears.

A complete investigation may identify potentially responsible parties beyond the drivers, but responsibility should not be assumed from an initial news report. The official investigation and preserved evidence are important to determining what happened.

Legal Options After a Serious Truck Crash

People injured in a commercial truck collision may be able to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost income, future care, pain, and other losses. Families who lose a loved one may also have wrongful-death and related claims under applicable state law.

Deadlines and available claims vary by jurisdiction. An attorney can review the facts, identify potentially responsible parties, and take steps to preserve evidence while the investigation continues.
