Evidence in Late-Night Tractor-Trailer Crashes
Crashes between passenger vehicles and tractor-trailers are often catastrophic because of the difference in vehicle size and weight. At night, investigators may also have to consider visibility, lighting, traffic flow, driver fatigue, and vehicle positioning.
Important evidence may include:
- Dashcam or highway camera footage
- Event data from the passenger vehicle and tractor-trailer
- Skid marks, debris fields, and final rest positions
- Truck driver logs and hours-of-service records
- Roadway lighting, weather, and traffic conditions
Because the cause has not yet been released, it is too early to assign fault. A careful investigation can help determine whether lane position, speed, fatigue, mechanical issues, or other factors contributed to the crash.
