Bossier Parish, Louisiana — A 24-year-old Bossier City woman was killed on April 8, 2026, after her car exited the roadway on Interstate 220 and struck a parked tractor-trailer, according to Louisiana State Police.
Hyundai Sonata Exits I-220 and Strikes Parked Tractor-Trailer
The crash occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. on westbound I-220 near North Market Street in Bossier Parish. Louisiana State Police Troop G reports indicate Lareka Jones, 24, of Bossier City, was driving a 2012 Hyundai Sonata when the vehicle exited the roadway and collided with a tractor-trailer that was parked off the travel lanes. Jones was properly restrained. She was pronounced dead at the scene as reported by KSLA.
Responding officers found the truck driver uninjured. Troop G investigators took over the scene.
Impairment Not Suspected, Toxicology Pending
Louisiana State Police have indicated impairment isn’t suspected as a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology testing is pending as part of the investigation as reported by KTBS.
Investigators haven’t released a preliminary cause for why the Sonata exited the roadway. That determination will likely depend on the toxicology results, a review of the vehicle’s condition, and any available traffic camera or dashcam footage.
The Hidden Danger of Parked Trucks on Interstate Shoulders
Tractor-trailers stopped on or near interstate shoulders are a recognized hazard. They’re difficult to see at highway speeds, don’t always have adequate rear lighting, and can be in blind spots on curved or divided sections of roadway. When a vehicle drifts off a travel lane from a medical event, fatigue, a distraction, or a tire failure, a parked semi can be the first thing it hits.
What the Investigation Will Examine
In crashes where a vehicle exits the roadway and strikes a stationary object, investigators and attorneys look at:
- What caused the vehicle to leave the travel lane
- Whether the tractor-trailer was legally parked and properly lit
- Road conditions, road design, and the presence or absence of rumble strips
- Driver health history and any evidence of a medical episode
- Whether the truck’s reflective markings and rear lights were functional and visible
Even when a driver’s behavior isn’t the primary focus, the parked truck’s location and visibility are also part of the legal picture. If the truck wasn’t properly lit or was stopped in a hazardous position, that can open a separate avenue for a claim.
