Authorities haven’t released the truck driver’s identity. No charges have been announced.
Northbound I-27 Temporarily Closed
Northbound lanes of I-27 were shut down near 50th Street while investigators processed the scene. The interstate reopened after the area was cleared, though police didn’t specify how long the closure lasted.
Pedestrian-Truck Crashes on Texas Highways
Pedestrian fatalities involving commercial trucks remain a serious concern on Texas interstates, particularly during overnight hours when visibility is reduced. Factors that investigators and attorneys examine in these cases include:
- Why the pedestrian was in or near the travel lanes
- Lighting and visibility conditions at the time of the crash
- The truck driver’s speed, attention, and reaction time
- Whether the truck was equipped with forward-facing cameras or collision avoidance systems
- Roadway design and the availability of pedestrian barriers or crossings
Even when a truck driver isn’t found at fault, the family of the deceased pedestrian may still have legal options depending on the full circumstances of the crash. In some cases, roadway design, inadequate lighting, or other contributing factors can create grounds for a claim.
