Iowa Park, Texas — Two people were killed on April 18, 2026, after a semi-truck rolled over on U.S. Highway 287 west of Iowa Park during extremely strong crosswinds, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Semi Loses Control During Strong Crosswinds
The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. near mile marker 326 on U.S. Highway 287. DPS said a 2020 Peterbilt tractor was towing a Wilson semi-trailer southeast when extremely strong crosswinds caused the truck to lose control.
According to the preliminary DPS report, the Peterbilt moved to the right, overcorrected to the left, and rolled onto its passenger side. The semi also struck a guardrail and became entangled in it, as reported by News Channel 6 KAUZ.
Driver and Passenger Pronounced Dead at the Scene
The driver, identified by DPS as 43-year-old Joshua Brad Sneed of Banks, Alabama, and the passenger, identified as 31-year-old Ashley Ramirez De los Santos Corona of Thomasville, Georgia, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
DPS said the investigation remains ongoing. The agency’s preliminary report points to high winds as a factor, but investigators may still review vehicle condition, route conditions, speed, load characteristics, and other evidence before reaching final conclusions.
Wind Risk for Tractor-Trailers
High-profile vehicles like tractor-trailers are especially vulnerable to strong crosswinds. A loaded trailer can still be pushed by gusts, and a lightly loaded or empty trailer may be even more difficult to control in severe wind conditions.
In wind-related truck crashes, attorneys and investigators may examine:
- Wind advisories in effect at the time of the crash
- The truck’s speed relative to weather and road conditions
- Whether the trailer was loaded, empty, or unevenly loaded
- Whether the carrier had weather-safety policies for high-wind routes
- Driver training on handling crosswinds and avoiding overcorrection
Even when weather is a major factor, the legal analysis does not stop there. Commercial drivers and trucking companies are still expected to adjust operations when road conditions become unsafe.
